New Junior School Building Proposal
|
|
| Posted on: Nov. 03 2009,09:28 by Lynn Rich |
New Junior School Building Proposal
Mr Toone is pleased to announce that the long awaited plan to create a purpose built Junior School has now been set in motion. Local architects pHp, who designed the new Franklin’s Gardens stadium, home of Northampton Saints, won the design competition held during the summer, when 5 different firms presented their initial interpretations of the brief. The School has approached a number of banks for funding of the project and initial discussions have proven very encouraging. It is our intention that the plans will be submitted to the planning authority next month with the aim of completing the project by January 2011 assuming everything is approved.
Mr Toone said "When I took over as Head I made it clear that the plan to build a new Junior School was to be very much left on the back burner as I did not want to raise expectations, if there was little evidence that we could achieve our aim. Now however, we are in a significantly stronger position financially, and with new pupil registrations on the up, we are all systems go!”
The new building will be located in the orchard site, until recently home to the Living History project. The design will enable the new building to blend in with the natural surroundings, allowing the children to have easy access to an exciting external learning environment. The building has been designed to comply with Daventry Council planning requirements in a conservation area. Initial discussions with the Council’s Conservation Officer have been very positive. Head of Juniors, Mrs Janet Cooper is delighted with the proposal for the new Junior School building; “I am very proud to be taking the Junior School forward into the new era. The new building is a great step in the right direction for the Juniors and we are all looking forward to moving in! The appearance of the building compliments the external surroundings beautifully and gives us adequate space to grow. At NGS it is important that each child has their individual qualities nurtured and the new building gives us better facilities to support this ethos.”

Robert Armitage, Srikanth Murali-Krishnan and Dominic Goold will now progress to study medicine at their first choice universities.
Nervous pupils had an early start, waiting until 6am until they were able to log in and download their results, for pupils on holiday and for International pupils returning home for the summer, an opportunity to find out their Grades. Fiona Zhang logged in from Beijing at 6am to realise her success of 4 ‘A’ Grades and will continue her education at Oxford University to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics.
Mr Toone stated ‘It has been another year of great success for the pupils and we are all extremely pleased that the hard work and efforts of both pupils and teachers have been rewarded with such excellent grades.’

Inspection February 2009 Report from Inspectors |
|
| Posted on: April 30 2009,11:21 by Sue Edwards |
'Northamptonshire Grammar School is a friendly school where pupils are encouraged to think and learn for themselves' -according to independent school inspectors.
Located in the village of Pitsford, Northamptonshire Grammar School is celebrating its 20th year of academic excellence this summer and has just been given an excellent report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate.
The Inspection report, which will be available from the ISI website or the School itself, highlights the “outstanding quality of pastoral care throughout the School” as well as the quality of teaching and learning which was graded as good to outstanding throughout the School.
“The best teaching is characterised by regular feedback given to pupils during lessons, enabling them to make good, sometimes rapid progress. Pupils express their enjoyment of the teaching they receive in interviews and in their general demeanour in lessons”.
“The support and guidance provided to all pupils is excellent and continues to be strength of the School. Many pupils say that they view the school as ‘a big family’ ”.
The Headmaster, Mr Noel Toone said, “Although we felt that we were doing a good job, it is very gratifying to have an independent confirmation of our strengths. It was a stressful week when the eight Inspectors came to visit, further compounded by the snow and blizzard conditions that closed many schools in Northamptonshire that week. Credit must go to a very committed staff that enthuse and motivate our pupils all year round. This report justifies our belief that a small school provides an excellent learning environment and enables children to embrace available opportunities with confidence.”
Hard copies of the report are available from the School office or the report can be emailed on request.
